EADS North America Test and Services introduces the Talon Instruments™ T940, High-Speed Digital Subsystem

September 16, 2013

IRVINE, Calif. – EADS North America Test and Services, a division of EADS North America, Inc. launches its second generation Talon Instruments™ high-speed digital testing system for both legacy replacement and new test stations.  The T940 Digital Subsystem, a single-wide, VXI 4.0-compatible module, provides a complete state-of-the-art digital solution at either a subsystem level or at a fully integrated system level.

The T940 Digital Resource Module (DRM) features dual sequencers that can function independently or synchronously for timing, memory, and control of the two front-end modules automatically. Sequencer logic supports full Unit Under Test (UUT) handshaking, formatting, patterns, looping, halt/pause-resume modes and conditional testing.  The sequencer implements definable primary, standby, and idle sequences for simplified testing transitions.

The T940 Driver/Receiver daughter card types include a full selection of variable-voltage and fixed-voltage types, including 24 Volt swings, Transistor-Transistor Logic (TTL), Low Voltage TTL (LVTTL), Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS), and RS-485.

The T940 DRMs form the backbone of a digital subsystem that may include switching, analog instrumentation, and even an RF subsystem.   The wide ranging options of the T940 provide a digital subsystem optimized for the testing of aircraft/avionics, weapons systems, spacecraft, semiconductors, and medical devices.

“One of the major concerns of our customers with existing digital test solutions was overheating, so we turned to our in-house design experts for a solution,” said Jim Mulato, president. “Each T940 variable voltage sub-module is equipped with a custom-designed heat sink to provide optimal cooling.  In addition, an on-board monitoring system protects the pin electronics from overheating and provides over-temperature, over-voltage and over-current shutdown.  Our new digital platform addresses our customers’ concerns with overheating, while addressing legacy replacement and Test Program Set (TPS) investment with a modular, scalable, technically sophisticated solution.”

The proven VXIbus instrumentation platform facilitates the integration of switching and analog instruments with other subsystems such as RF or Electro-Optical (EO) and with the digital subsystem.  Two power conversion options are available to optimize system performance for use with the VXI 3.0 or VXI 4.0 backplane.

The T940 high-speed digital platform is ideal for replacing less reliable, obsolete digital test products while preserving TPS investments.  The optional Application Resource Interface (ARI) enables legacy test programs to seamlessly utilize the T940.  The VXIplug&play driver and ARI layer support third-party test development tools to ease development and integration into popular test environments.

Built-in scalability and modular design enable configurations from 32 to 768 single-ended channels in 24 or 32-channel increments.  Each DRM can hold up to two modules of 24 or 32 channels. Multiple DRMs can operate as independent 32-bit digital instruments or as one or more digital subsystems with up to 768 channels.

The Talon Instruments™ T940 was designed and is manufactured in the U.S.A. at EADS North America Test and Services headquarters in Irvine, CA.
